Prof. Qasmi of AMU honoured with ML Abul Hassan Nadvi award

Aligarh: Prof. M. Saud Alam Qasmi, Dean, Faculty of Theology, Aligarh Muslim University has been honoured with the Maulana Abul Hassan Ali Nadwi Award. The award was given to him by Justice Markandey Katju, Chairman, Press Council of India at a programme held by the Islamic Social and Cultural Foundation, Bhiwandi.

The Islamic Social and Cultural Foundation organized a conference on “Unity in Diversity” which was attended by a large panel of scholars and journalists such as Justice Markandey Katju, Kumar Ketkar, Gurdayal Singh, Maulana Salman Nadvi, Shamim Tarique, Mushtaque Ahmad Advocate etc.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Qasmi said that Unity in Diversity is the need of the country and promotion of diverse cultures is necessary for maintaining the democratic character and secular image of the country. He stressed that the development of the country lied in the development of all sections of the society including minorities.

Justice Markanday Katju said that the country primarily belonged to the migrants. The objectives of national integrity could be achieved only by protection of interests and dignity of all communities. Any move to divide people on the line of caste, creed and language will spoil the country.
