BHEL Bhopal Unit earns profit of Rs.686 cr.

Bhopal: The Bhopal unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), one of India’s giant Public Sector Undertaking, in the year 2012-13 recorded a net Profit before tax of Rs.686 crores (126.03 million USD) achieving the turnover of Rs.4740 crores (870.8 millions USD). However, this profit is 15 per cent less than last fiscal of 2011-12 which was actually Rs.8110 millions (148.99 millions USD).

In 2011-12 BHEL, Bhopal had achieved a turnover of Rs.4780 crores (878.15 million USD) exceeding the set target of Rs.4778 crores (877.79 million USD), a hike of nearly 19 per cent over the previous year.

Addressing a Press conference Shashi Ranjan Prasad, the Executive Director of BHEL Bhopal unit, said that the turnover of the company was down marginally from Rs.4,789 crores (879.81 million USD) in 2011-12 to Rs.4,740 crores (870.8 million USD) in 2012-13. He said that the turnover is exclusive of the finished goods worth Rs.195 crore (35.82 million USD) which have been put on hold due to payment or customer issues.

Stating that “the worst is over”, Prasad said that global recession has hit industries badly. He attributed the poor statistics to global slow down. The ED informed that performance of the unit in other parameters like value addition achieved had improved marginally. The company had set a target of Rs.6003 crores (1102.84 millions USD) for the year. He appreciated the efforts of the employees in achieving the turnover amid serious business implications.

The year turned out to be remarkable for engineering & product development segment of BHEL wherein various power projects were commissioned successfully. Prasad highlighting the progress of the unit gave brief description of each division’s report card.

Declaring Rs.6004 crores (1103.02 millions USD) as the turnover target of fiscal 2013-14, Prasad said that looking at the present business environment the set target is aptly competitive. He said that the employees have always overcome all odds and no target poses any threat before them.

Replying to a question he said that the export turnover in the financial year 2012-13 was Rs.2000 crores (367.43 millions USD) and in the next fiscal the target has been fixed at Rs.2500 crores (459.29 millions USD). BHEL has received decent orders from foreign countries, he added.

He said BHEL products have been exported to 37 countries namely Iraq, Syria, Netherlands, Libya, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Bhutan etc. He revealed that MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been signed with Govt. of Tajikistan for setting up two Hydro Power Projects (2×50 MW) on Zeravshan River, Tajikistan. Similarly, five power plants overseas in Libya, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Indonesia and Ethiopia have been commissioned. BHEL has supplied water projects’ equipments for Netherlands, Iraq, Bhutan and others, he further added.

Alluding to the message of B. P. Rao, CMD, BHEL Prasad said that the CMD in his message has urged the employees to make delivery of products within the stipulated time at any cost. He thanked the efforts of Employee Trade Union, Junior Executive Association and Officers Association in achieving the turnover target exhorting the employees to work as team in attaining the target.
