Akhilesh & Azam Khan skips Harvard lecture after latter’s brief detention at US airport

Lucknow: Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Minister for urban development Azam Khan skipped the lecture organised at Harvard University on Friday. The step was taken reportedly after Azam Khan was detained for questioning at Logan Airport in Boston.

Azam Khan who is regarded as in upright and honest minister took strong exception and even slammed the authorities stating that he has arrived on invitation by Harvard University and is not looking for a job. Azam stated that he was detained only because of being a Muslim. The tremors of the issue were felt at Lucknow.

As per information, Akhilesh and Azam were attend the lecture on Kumbh Mela which was recently organised by Azam’s department at Allahabad. Harvard University students had visited Allahabad and had extended invitation to Akhilesh and Azam.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav later decided to skip the function along with Azam Khan. “We are not attending the function at Harvard University. I was detained for 45 minutes at airport. They did not ask anything but scrutinised my passport,” Azam Khan told TCN. The move is seen as a step to reply US authorities for the treatment given to Azam Khan.
