Agra: The two-day national meet of the electoral officers of states began here with the systematic voter education programme (SVEEP) heading the agenda.
Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma, inaugurating the workshop being attended by officers from 35 states and union territories, said voter education, registration and awareness creation were the top priorities, as the panel wanted more and more people to go out and vote.
“People should realise the importance of participating in the electoral process and exercise their right to vote in a proper and responsible manner,” he said.
India has reasons to be proud of the fair electoral process which has been praised world over, he said, also urging the media to play its important role in creating awareness and motivating voters to exercise their right.
Akshay Rout of the Election Commission outlined details of the SVEEP and called it a voter-friendly global model.
