New Delhi : The Left parties boycotted President Pranab Mukherjee’s first address to the joint sitting of the two houses of parliament Thursday as a mark of protest while supporting the two-day nationwide strike called by major trade unions.
Before the address, members of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and the Forward Bloc raised slogans against the government policies and showed placards inside the parliament complex.
The Left parties held the government responsible for price rise, growing unemployment, and the move to privatise profit-making PSUs. They demanded wage hike for workers.
