Protest rally against atrocities, rape and trafficking in Kokata by AIUDF women wings

Kolkata: A protest rally against atrocities, rape and women trafficking was organized in Kolkata on December 31, 2012 by AIUDWF, Women wings of All India United Democratic Front.

Many Muslim girls and boys participated in this rally along with the general people. AIUDF women wings also observed the` Black day’ on the last day of the year 2012. The rally began from Wellington Square and people gathered at Rani Rasmoni Avenue, Esplanade East Kolkata.

Muslim women holding placards that read, `we demands special law against rape’ `keep honor of women,’ and others condemn the recent rape of the girl in Delhi. Protesters had tied black bands on their heads to observe ‘black day.’

All India United Democratic Women Front, state leader Manisha Banerjee said, `We condemn the atrocities of Delhi incidents, but lot of harassments occurring regularly in West Bengal also. Moreover, women trafficking from rural Bengal have increased over the years.” She demanded that the state government should give urgent attention to the notice.



Besides many Muslim women, several adibasi and Dalit women were also present at the rally.

AIUDF leader Maulana Siddiqullah Chowdhury said, nearly 20 percent cases of rapes are processed in court, and rest of the cases is still pending for long time. So, government should take initiatives to fast track those cases, he demanded. He also mentioned and condemned the massive women trafficking from Muslim dominated areas on the state. He gave example of the South Dinajpur District of West Bengal from where nearly 300 girls are missing in last 4 years.
