Chandigarh sees coldest day in 10 years

Chandigarh : With the maximum temperature being only 8.4 degrees, Friday was the coldest day in Chandigarh in the last one decade, Met officials said here.

Before this, the city had recorded a high of eight degrees in January 2003. This was 13 degrees below normal.

Amritsar city saw a high of 8.2 degrees, 11 degrees below normal, making it the coldest city in Punjab Friday.

Ambala city, 45 km from here, also had a high of 8.2 degrees, 11 degrees below normal.

Chandigarh witnessed a minimum temperature of 3.4 degrees Friday morning.

Met officials said that the minimum temperature could still go down. Chandigarh had hit freezing point (0 degrees) in 2007 and 2008.

In Haryana, Hisar recorded the lowest minimum temperature Friday at 1.9 degrees, Met officials said. Narnaul town had a low of two degrees.

Met officials said that the cold wave will continue in Punjab and Haryana in the next few days. They said that moderate to dense fog will also be witnessed at most places. The weather will largely remain dry over the region, they added.
