Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has partnered with an NGO to address climate change through integrated strategies and action plan, an official said Friday.
“Chief Minister Narendra Modi signed a memorandum of understanding for three years with the Climate Group, which works on climate issues, during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013,” the official said.
“Under the programme, a full-fledged Climate Change Department (CCD) will be established. It will be responsible for developing biomass based and other renewable energy sources, coastal adaption, combating desertification and capacity-building measures,” said officer.
The Climate Group helps governments and businesses work on a clean climate. It worked with government and business leaders for the trial of low-carbon LED lighting in West Bengal and facilitated the UK-India Business Leaders Climate Group.
