New Delhi : A Sri Lankan was arrested at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here Wednesday as he was about to board a Paris-bound flight on fake travel documents.
Marvin, a businessman from Sri Lanka, was arrested by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel around 1 a.m. and was handed over to Delhi Police.
Marvin, 24, told interrogators that he exchanged his passport and boarding pass for an Air France flight to Paris with Subramanyam Thavas, a travel agent.
“The travel documents recovered from Marvin were in the name of Subramanyam Thavas,” a CISF officer said.
“Marvin was arrested in the international security hold area. CCTV footage showed him exchanging travel documents with Thavas,” said the officer.
Marvin had come to Chennai 15 days ago from where he came to Delhi by train.
“Thavas met him at New Delhi station and took him to IGI Airport,” the officer said.
“At IGI, CCTV footage showed that Marvin got a boarding pass to travel to Mumbai. However, Thavas got a boarding pass for Air France flight AF-225 to go to Paris. They exchanged their documents in the toilet. Thavas flew to Mumbai while Marvin was arrested,” the officer added.
