New Delhi : Blaming the Congress for the arrest of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, his mother and YSR Congress honorary president Wednesday said the allegations of corruption against her son were false.
Y.S. Vijayamma and a group of YSR Congress leaders Tuesday met President Pranab Mukherjee and urged him to intervene.
She said a petition signed by nearly by two crore people was submitted to the president.
“My (late) husband worked for the public for more than 30 years, he lost his life while serving the people. He was instrumental in bringing the Congress to power in Andhra Pradesh and the centre and this is the reward (his son) gets,” Vijayamma said.
“Everyone knows there are no irregularities, why is my son in jail?” she asked.
A YSR Congress leader accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of jailing Jaganmohan Reddy on the directions of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
“This is a blatant violation of human rights. As long as Jaganmohan remained with the Congress, he and his father remained respectable men in the eyes of the Congress. The moment he came out of the Congress, a PIL was filed against him by a Congress (legislator),” he said.
Jaganmohan Reddy is currently in Chanchalguda Jail in connection with a corruption case.
Jaganmohan Reddy quit the Congress after the party did not nominate him to succeed his father and then chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who died in a helicopter crash in September 2009.
