Bhubaneswar: A court in Odisha Friday sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Ganjam district in 2009, a government lawyer said.
Berhampur Assistant Sessions Judge Khirod Kumar Das convicted and sentenced 25-year-old Linda Naik for raping the girl over several days after kidnapping her from Nimakhandi village Nov 6, 2009, associate public prosecutor Kureshu Gouda told IANS.
Naik had kidnapped the girl when she was watching a folk drama in her village, and shifted from village to village.
Police rescued her from a nearby village a week after she was kidnapped, Gouda said.
The judge also imposed a a fine of Rs.5,000 on Naik. In case he does not pay, he will have to stay in jail for six more months, he said.
