New Delhi : The 21st century will be the century of the women, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Tuesday, on being awarded by Assocham Ladies League for her contribution to outstanding public service.
“The 21st century will be the century of the women of the world. I am proud to be a woman and I am proud of all the women who work without being recognised and I am receiving this award on behalf of all those women,” said Dikshit at the award function here.
Along with the Delhi chief minister, the award was also given to Syeda S. Hameed for her excellence in governance, Ritu Kumar for fashion retail, Naina Lal Kidwai of HSBC Bank for excellence in banking, Shobhana Bhartia of Hindustan Times for her contribution to nation-building through media and to actress Sharmila Tagore.
Harbeen Arora, global chairperson, Assocham Ladies League, said: “We need role models. Today’s award honours those who have been recognised the world over for contribution to their specific fields. This award is to reclaim them as our own.”
Assocham Ladies League is an all-ladies league that facilitates and fortifies the robust participation of women in business, society and economy.
