The term of the present assembly ends June 3. Of the 225 seats, 224 are elected and one is nominated to give representation to the Anglo-Indian community.

Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath and Election Commissioners H.S. Brahma and Nasim Zaidi Friday met representatives of various parties to hear their suggestions, an official spokesperson told reporters.

The CEC and the election commissioners would meet state government officials Saturday on the preparations they have made for the polls.

The poll schedule is expected to be announced in mid-March, and polls are likely to be held in May as March and April are school and college examination months in the state.

Karnataka is now busy with elections to 208 urban local bodies on March 7. Results would be out March 11.
