Four others were injured in the incident in the Gagah area.

The trader, 62-year-old Durvasa, was caught unawares as the assailants barged into his house and started firing indiscriminately.

While he and his son Babu Lal were killed on the spot, four others, including his wife Prabhawati, son Kanhaiyya and grandson Rahul, were also hit by the bullets. They have been admitted to a local medical facility where they are said to be out of danger but in serious condition.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Paresh Pandey told IANS that the killings were the outcome of a land dispute.

“The deceased’s family has said that their family was engaged in a dispute over some land with Shani and Munna Singh and apprehended their hand behind the killings,” Pandey said, adding that special police teams have been formed to hunt down the killers.

A heavy police posse has been deployed in the area as tension and anger spread in the village over the double-murder.
