Kolkata : Rejecting the ruling Trinamool Congress’s allegation that the West Bengal Election Commission was “biased”, the BJP Monday exuded confidence that the panel would conduct the upcoming rural polls in the state in a fair manner.
“This is their (Trinamool) observation and not ours. She has been a very competent officer,” BJP president Rajnath Singh said regarding Trinamool’s allegation that state election commissioner Meera Pandey was “biased”.
“The upcoming panchayat (rural body) polls should be a fair one and am confident that the state election commissioner Meera Pandey will do her job efficiently and in a fair manner,” added Singh.
The ruling Trinamool government in the state, which has been at loggerheads with the poll panel over the issue of panchayat polls, Sunday had accused Pandey of favouring the Left Front during whose regime she was appointed as the state election commissioner.
The allegations made by Trinamool national general secretary Mukul Roy attracted severe criticisms from the opposition.
A five-member BJP delegation led by state president Rahul Sinha will meet Pandey Tuesday to discuss matters regarding the panchayat polls.
