Lucknow : An elderly couple tried to immolate themselves here Monday outside a sub-divisional magistrate’s office but was saved, police said.
Harassed over a property dispute, Ram Prasad and his wife Saroj doused themselves in kerosene and tried to light a matchstick. However, police overpowered them and arrested them.
They have been booked for attempted suicide.
The couple told police that their family was harassing them over a property dispute. They alleged that the district administration had paid no heed to their repeated complaints.
Officials said that action had been taken after their complaints.
The incident took place in Hathras, 330 km from here.
