Alexander Sterkhov was found guilty of arranging the murder of Alexander Barybin, a city legislature deputy in the Sverdlovsk region town of Irbit, the regional court said.

According to investigators, Sterkhov hired a traffic police inspector to kill Barybin, following a commercial dispute between the two men.

The police inspector, Anton Gazdeliani, fixed a tripwire attached to a grenade outside Barybin’s house, which exploded, fatally injuring the lawmaker.

He died of his wounds in hospital two days later.

Sterkhov remained on the run until July 2012, when he was detained in Egypt and extradited to Russia.

Gazdeliani was sentenced in March 2012 to 14 years in jail.
