Overseas visitors to Britain decline

London : Visits to Britain by overseas residents fell by one percent in January following strong figures in November and December 2012, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

The number of visits by overseas residents to Britain in January was 2.2 million, one percent lower than the same period last year, said the ONS Thursday.

However, earnings from visits remained strong, posing an 8-percent rise in the three months to January this year, compared with a year earlier, reported Xinhua.

At the same time, visits abroad by British residents went up 6 percent to an estimated 3.4 million in January compared with the same period last year. However, the January 2012 figure was weak, the ONS noted.

The ONS figure also show that expenditure abroad by British residents rose by 2 percent in the three months to January 2013 compared with a year earlier.
