Aligarh: “Muslims should use the various medium of arts and literature for correcting misconceptions regarding the community, which are often created by their distorted portrayal in films and other mass media”, said the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah, while delivering presidential address at the annual function of the Raleigh Literary Society, Department of English.
General Shah urged the students to participate in literary activities and use the literature to bridge the gap between different communities and classes in society. He said that he was working on a major plan to give boost to literary and cultural activities in the realm of the university and provide adequate infrastructure for maximum participation of students in these activities. He said there was no reason that world-class litterateurs could not be produced in the University.

The Raleigh Literary Society organized several literary competitions to mark its annual function. The Vice Chancellor gave away prizes to the winners of various literary and cultural events held on this occasion including Essay Writing Competition, Creative Writing Competition, Panel Discussion, Literary Quiz, Extempore and Enactment of Shakespeare. Prof. S.N. Zeba, Coordinator of Raleigh Literary Society was present on the occasion.
