New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) will deploy a squadron of its latest Mi-17 V-5 helicopters in Nagpur for assistance of security forces deployed in Maoist-affected areas of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and other states, officials said.
The deployment of helicopters will help reduce time in providing air support during day and night for evacuation and other needs, said officials.
IAF has already deployed its choppers at Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur and Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur for support in anti-Maoist operations.
The officials said the force operates by a standard operating procedure (SOP) which prescribes fire in self defence only.
