The event began with the introductory speech by Ms. Samia Siddiqui, Secretary Helping Hands Society.

Anam Rais Khan, a student of BALLB 4th year enlightened the girls about their legal rights. She said that every half an hour a woman is raped in India and 7 out of 10 women in India face domestic violence. This rising violence can be curbed to a great extent by women themselves coming forward and standing up for their rights, she added. Pro-women laws are useless unless women are aware of them and are in a position to use them effectively.

Nashrah Haider Rizvi, student of BALLB 4th year informed the girls about the Right to Information Act 2005 and the Right to Education enshrined under the Indian constitution. She said that in a welfare state like ours development is the responsibility of state. Indian Government under RTE is responsible to provide free education to all children between 6-14 years. Regarding RTI she said that it is a tool for fair governance and even though people may kill RTI activists but they can’t kill an RTI.

Shaima Raqib (student MSW) elaborated on the importance of their health and hygiene. She stressed that most of the females are careless about their health which in the long run leads to fatal diseases. From washing hands to the reproductive health, each and every part must be taken care of, she added.

Several famous dignitaries and girl students from several AMU departments participated in the awareness programme.
