Kathmandu : Nepal’s business sector will monitor the second Constituent Assembly elections Nov 19.
The Election Commission had approved the proposal of the business sector performing as observer during the polls, Xinhua reported.
Nepal Business Initiatives, a non-political group working to promote the interest of the country’s business community, has taken the lead in deploying observers from the private sector in the upcoming polls.
“All preparations towards this direction have been completed and we are all set to observe this historically significant election,” Surendra Bir Malakar, general secretary of Nepal Business Initiatives told Xinhua.
As per the mandate of the elections commission, around 200 individuals who are members of various business bodies, including the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Nepalese Industry and Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises Nepal will be deployed in 21 of the total 75 districts in the country during the polls.
Suresh Adhikary, election commission joint secretary, said that following repeated requests by Nepal Business Initiatives, the private sector has been allowed to observe the polls directly this time.
Private sector observers have already been given orientation from election commission in regards to the election Code of Conduct and other responsibilities to be fulfilled during their observation.
“Our eagerness to observe the polls also expresses the private sector’s commitment to the democratic system,” said Surendra Bir Malakar, who is also coordinator for the Constituent Assembly polls observation.
