Geneva : Welcoming the agreement reached on Iran’s nuclear programme, China Sunday said the accord marks the first important step towards a diplomatic solution to the country’s nuclear issue.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in Geneva to take part in the international talks on the Iranian nuclear issue, said China welcomes the agreement and appreciates the flexible and pragmatic attitudes of all parties during the negotiations, reports Xinhua.
The deal will help maintain the world’s non-proliferation system, peace and stability in the Middle East, favour normal activities from all parties with Iran, and better the life of the Iranian people, Wang added.
The minister emphasised that the content of the agreement covered the concerns of all parties and the next key step was its implementation.
China, as an important member in the dialogue, always advocated for a peaceful solution to Iran’s nuclear issue through negotiations and kept close contacts with all parties, Wang said.
After intensive negotiations, the P5+1 group — the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, Britain, China, France, Russia and the US, plus Germany — and Iran have reached a first-step agreement on Tehran’s nuclear programme, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton earlier announced in Geneva.
