“I don’t want an education system where students are burdened by the weight of books. I hate to see students worrying about their studies. I want a tension-free education system,” Banerjee said at an event here to mark Teachers’ Day.

Observing that “all work and no play made one dull”, Banerjee urged students to take up cultural activities and sports along with their studies for their all-round development.

“I want to see students growing up in a free environment where there are no worries. Cultural development is an integral part of education,” she said.

Claiming that under her regime the state has gone up the ladder in terms of education in the country, Banerjee said her government was striving hard to make it number one.

“We have already set up a large number educational institutions across the state and soon will set up a commission comprising eminent educationists who will prepare ‘Vision 2020’ – the education roadmap that will take the state towards educational glory,” she added.
