Dr. Talat Ahmad

Dr. Ahmad began his career as a Junior Geologist with the Geological Survey of India and worked for nineteen years as a Scientist with Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, under DST, Dehradun. He joined Department of Geology, University of Delhi as Professor in October 2003. He took over as Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir in June 2011.

Dr. Ahmad has the exceptional distinction of being a Fellow of all the Science Academies of the country: the Indian National Science academy (FNA), New Delhi; the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc); and the National Academy of Sciences (FNASc).

Dr. Ahmad has over 65 research publications to his credit. He has supervised several M. Phil and Ph.D research studies at the University of Delhi and the Research School of Earth Sciences, Australian National University, Canberra.

Last year, in September, over 300 teachers of the University has written to the President urging him to make some academician a VC rather than former administrator with civil service, police or military backgrounds, as often the VC of Jamia and Aligarh Muslim University are.

It would be interesting to see how the students’ community receive the new VC as of Jamia Najeeb Jung, he too was opposed to restoring students’ union at Kashmir University.
