Cairo : Ibrahim Negm, advisor to the mufti of Egypt, Wednesday denounced the beheading of US journalist James Foley by the Islamic State (IS) Sunni extremist group in Iraq, state-run MENA news agency reported.
“Such acts distort the image of Islam, and give our enemies an opportunity to circulate unfounded accusations about this pure religion,” he said in a statement Wednesday.
He added that killing people has nothing to do with the religion of Islam which prohibits the killing of innocent people by acts of terrorism.
The IS has released a video purportedly showing one of its fighters beheading Foley, who had gone missing in Syria nearly two years ago.
