International SIM card selling permit extended to 3 years: DoT

New Delhi : The Department of Telecom has extended the period of permission for selling international SIM cards to three years from the existing one year.

“The NOC (no objection certificate) shall be issued initially for a period of three years and shall be renewed on the request of the company for another period of three years,” the DoT circular said.

Earlier the companies renting or selling international SIM cards were mandated to take NOC every year.

The terms and conditions of the NOC also stated “cards being offered to Indian customers will be for use only outside India”.

“The traffic originated in other country for termination in India will be routed through the valid ILD (international long distance) licensees/valid ILD gateways,” it also stated.
