Pathankot (Punjab): The Jammu-Delhi Rajdhani Express was Sunday evening stopped and searched at the Pathankot railway station in Punjab following a high-level alert that there was an explosive on the train, police said.
The train was stopped around 9.30 p.m. and all passengers were asked to disembark at Pathankot, located about 250 km from Chandigarh and close to Punjab’s inter-state border with Jammu and Kashmir.
Around 150 personnel of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Punjab Police and the army’s bomb disposal squad searched the entire train thoroughly, a GRP official said.
“The alert regarding an explosive on the train was given by the Jammu and Kashmir DGP (director general of police) to the Punjab DGP. The train was halted at the Pathankot railway station and a search was started immediately,” a Punjab Police officer told IANS.
Police sources said the bomb alert could be related to the ongoing assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
