By TCN News,

Aligarh: Even as it welcomed the announcement of Bharat Ratna for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malveeya, city-based Sir Syed Minority Foundation of India (SSMFI) has demanded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to confer upon Bharat Ratna to educationist and AMU founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan to pay him an appropriate tribute.

Submitting a memorandum drawing Modi’s attention towards the service of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to the nation, Perwez Siddiqui, president of SSMFI, said, “We want to draw your grave concern towards the unparalled service of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan to the nation that ranges from his fight for the freedom of this country to his unequalled contribution in the field of education.”

Calling the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) as the initiative that the great visionary Sir Syed started centuries back, and which glitters like a precious gem serving the nation in myriad ways, the SSMFI – in a release – said, “We surely cannot turn our eye blind to his strenuous effort by which establishment of the AMU could be realized; an effort that benefits and educates all sections of this country and provides thousands of talented youth an opportunity to contribute in the development of our nation.”

“Sir Syed always worked for the inclusive growth of the plural population of this country and promoted communal harmony of this nation. He always said India is a beautiful bride, ‘Muslims and Hindus are the two beautiful eyes of it’,” the letter said and further added, “A tribute (by way of Bharat Ratna) to such a visionary on whose dreams our country progresses on the path of prosperity today, can only be made proportionate with the highest civilian award.”
