Guwahati: All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) has urged All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) not to use religion for their political gain. The student body also slammed the AIUDF for their ‘dubious’ role in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha election in the state which witnessed plenty of drama.
“They have been doing it. It is enough. We have never seen them discussing the issues of development with the poor people. They just take the name of Allah and mislead the people. This way no development is possible for the minority of the state. They would just keep on making people take oath in the name of Allah and would do nothing,” AAMU general secretary Rezaul Karim Sarkar said adding that AIUDF’s future is very bleak.
Badruddin Ajmal
The students’ body has also accused the party chief Badruddin Ajmal and its senior MLA from Katigorah in Barak valley Maulana Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiyan for damaging the image of Islamic religious scholar for their ‘blame game’ at each other after the Rajya Sabha election fiasco.
Majharbhuiyan skipped the election procedure as he went to Saudi Arabia to perform religious activity while five other opposition votes were cancelled for casting in the wrong manner. Thus, opposition’s common candidate Haidar Hussain, a senior journalist of the state, lost the seat. On the other hand, Majharbhuiyan, who has been suspended for indefinite period from the party, is accusing Ajmal instead for asking him to stay away from voting. He also accused that Ajmal had taken money from Congress.
“Either one of them is lying. They have also damaged the image of an Islamic religious scholar. People regard them to be scholar by their looks and they are supposed to tell the truth. They are liars in the disguise of a religious scholar. We condemn their activity,” AAMSU president Abdur Rahim Ahmed said.
AAMSU also warned the AIUDF to take strict action against the betraying MLAs who ‘intentionally’ cast their votes in wrong way to help the ruling Congress win all the seats in the RS election. The students’ body said that if party chief Ajmal does not take any action and does not clear his stand, the perfume baron will be barred from entering in the minority dominated areas of the state.
AAMSU president Abdur Rahim Ahmed speaks to reporters during the press conference.
“AIUDF has betrayed the people of the state during the Rajya Sabha election. Now, we warn the party chief Badruddin Ajmal to clear his stand and take immediate action against the MLAs who were culprits. If Ajmal does not take any action within three days of time, we will bar him from entering in the minority dominated areas of the state,” Abdur Rahim Ahmed said.
On the process of rehabilitation at the violence hit Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD), AAMSU, slammed the state government for negligence to the victims while appreciating Gujrat chief minister Narendra Modi for his better rehabilitation measures.
“Narendra Modi may be termed as anti-Muslim but the reality is that Modi has done far better job in terms of rehabilitation in Gujrat compared to Assam,” he said.
