Bangkok : Thai anti-government protestors Monday blocked Government House to prevent caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s planned return to her office here.
Protestors of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) also moved into the education ministry amid the government’s announcement Sunday that there would be no peace talks with opposition protestors and all rally sites occupied by them should be vacated by police this week.
PDRC leader Suthep Thaugsuban led a march of thousands of demonstrators in the morning from the stage at Pathumwan intersection to Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue in Bangkok, reported the Bangkok Post.
“Yingluck Shinawatra will have no chance to return to the Government House in this life or the next,” said Suthep during the march.
The rally is being reinforced by the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand, which controls many areas near government buildings.
The PDRC move came after the announcement of Chalerm Yubamrung, director of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order, Sunday that the area around the Government House would be cleared for Yingluck’s return Wednesday.
