New Delhi : Following the rape of another foreigner in the capital, women activists Wednesday demanded immediate implementation of chemical castration and death sentence instead of mere discussions on such punishments.

In the new year, two cases have been reported in the national capital alone. A Polish woman was raped Jan 4 and a Danish woman Tuesday.

There is also report of a German teen raped in a moving train in Chennai Wednesday.

“Every time a female is physically assaulted or raped, the government sets up a panel and makes mere discussions without any outcome,” social activist Annie Raja told IANS.

“I totally support the implementation of chemical castration and death sentence as the ultimate punishment in such crimes which are heinous,” added Raja.

The activists believe if the central and the state governments do not take tough initiative to curb such incidents, India will soon gain the tag of being the “most unsafe place for women” globally.

All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch president Asha Kotwal told IANS: “Making a change in the mind set of people can’t be done so easily. It takes a long and dedicated process, something not possible in India. So the best thing that can be done is to improve the law and order of the land.”

“Reforms in the police, intense patrolling in vulnerable and crime-prone areas are some other things that should be done,” added Kotwal.

Julie Thhekudan, another social activist, said the government needed to take the increasing number of rape cases against both Indian and foreign women very seriously to save the image of the country.

“Such incidents are affecting the tourism and the business sectors,” Thhekudan told IANS.

In 2013, a Swiss woman in Madhya Pradesh, an American tourist in Himachal Pradesh and a Dutch woman in Goa were raped while a British tourist jumped off a hotel in Uttar Pradesh while trying to escape sexual assault.
