Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Monday said special emphasis would be laid on construction of roads in the backward areas.
Presiding over the state planning board meeting to approve the draft annual plan for 2014-15, he said a Rs.4,400-crore annual plan was proposed for the next fiscal, which was 7.32 percent more than 2013-14.
He said Rs.1,108 crore was proposed for Scheduled Castes sub-plan while Rs.395 crore would be spent under the Scheduled Tribes sub-plan.
The chief minister said Rs.1,085 crore was proposed for the social service sector, which is 38 percent of the total Plan.
Transport and communication have also been accorded priority and Rs.817 crore marked for these two sectors.
He said a provision of Rs.648 crore was made for tapping hydropower while Rs.545 crore would be made available for the horticulture and agriculture sectors, the backbone of the state’s economy.
