Military junta to assist Thai interim government

Bangkok : The Thai military junta will stay to assist an upcoming interim government, the air force chief said Friday.

The junta, officially called The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), will work with the interim cabinet, national legislative assembly and national reform council.

The three are expected to start operations in September or October until the junta’s roadmap leading up to elections is completed, Xinhua quoted Air Force chief Prajin Juntong as saying.

A new general election is expected to take place around October 2015 and an elected government to take shape late next year, according to the roadmap.

The official, however, did not elaborate on what powers will be vested in the NCPO after the formation of the provisional cabinet.

The draft of an interim constitution is being reviewed, he added.
