New Delhi: Muslim religious leaders have appealed Muslim youth to ensure Shab-e-Bar’at is observed peacefully and keeping in mind the dignity of the occasion.
Shab-e-Bar’at is observed on day 15th of the Islamic month of Shaban and this year in India it is to fall on the night of Friday the 13th. Muslims are expected to spend most of this night praying for Allah writes their destiny for the coming year. It is also a custom to visit the graveyards.
In this past Muslim youngsters have created traffic hazards with their rash driving. This year, a number of religious & community leaders have urged the youth to be on their best behavior.
President of All India Ulama &Mashaikh Board (AIUMB) Maulana Syed Mohammad Ashraf Kichchawchvi has said in a press statement that AIUMB appeals to the youth to understand the spirit of Shabe Bar’at which has been devised to seek pardon for sins and this occasion specially created for night-long prayers must not be wasted in festivities.
“He said it is very essential to secure peace and discipline for the night. This is a matter of great regret that Muslim youth in their religious attires come out on roads in big numbers on two wheelers and take full liberty of the permission granted to them by parents to go out on vehicles for veneration, reverence, intercession and prayers,” Maulana Kichchawchvi said.
Imam of Fatehpuri Mosque Mufti Mukarram Ahmed is also disturbed by behavior of the youngsters on this night. He urged organizations to step forward to stop Muslim youth from being a nuisance. Mufti Ahmed appealed to the youth not to perform bike stunts on the streets and not to break any law, reminding them that Shab-e-Barat is a sacred occasion and not a festival.
