7th international film festival at AMU concludes

Aligarh: The Award ceremony of 7th Filmsaaz-2014, an international Film Festival of documentary and short films organized by University Film Club, Aligarh Muslim University concluded held yesterday. Noted actor and Indian film director, Tigmanshu Dhulia and AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig (Retd) S Ahmad Ali, felicitated the winners under various categories of national and international films.

In the international category of short films, the best film and best actor male award was given to ‘Road Rage’ and ‘Katwe’ bagged the Best story and direction awards. The award for best actor female was given to ‘Budget ki Raat’. Besides this, the best cinematography, screenplay, editing and sound mixing awards were given to ‘Final Delivery’, ‘Amrita’, ‘Reminiscence – An Act of Love’ and ‘Bhadralok Adventure’, respectively. ‘Aaj ki taza khabar’, ‘Ab Bas’ and ‘Set back’ were declared the best documentary, best music video, and best Ad-Experimental films, respectively.

Under the National Category of short films, the best film and best sound mixing award was given to ‘Maulabaksh’, and best story and best actor male to ‘Pathfinder’. The award for best director was given to ‘Pagdandi’, whereas it shared the award for best screenplay with ‘Chappal’. ‘Sparsham’ bagged the award for best cinematography and best actor female. The award for best editing was given to ‘Talent Barter’. The awards for best documentary, best animation, best music video and best ad-experimental film were given to ‘Cross Road’, ‘Chasni’, ‘Manzar’, and ‘Killer trio’, respectively.

‘Sound Thief’, ‘Weeping Clouds’, and ‘Chitra Panga-a butterfly’ got the awards for Best international documentary, Best national documentary and best short film in the national category, respectively in the special jury award category. SM Zaheer from ‘Maulabaksh’ was declared the best actor in the category.

Addressing the audience on this occasion, Tigmanshu Dhulia said that he felt proud to be a part of the festival. He said that Indian cinema has been undergoing changes since 2013 and recent movies are different from the traditional ones. He also added that if AMU permitted he would love to make shootings in the beautiful serene campus of the University.

AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig (Retd) S Ahmad Ali, Dr FS Sheerani, Coordinator, General Education Centre, Mr S Abid Hasn, President and Amir Khan, Secretary, University Film Club also addressed the gathering. Program was conducted by Jone Foster, Adil Raza Khan and Shahzan Nayyar jointly. 150 films were shown during the festival.
