World Oral Health Day celebrated

Aligarh: To commemorate the World Oral Health Day (WOHD), the Disability Unit, Aligarh Muslim University organized a Dental Hygiene Camp in collaboration with a students’ organization, ‘SOCH, Beyond the Imagination’, for visually and physically challenged students of AMU. The objective of this camp is to raise awareness and encourage students to take action and help reduce the global burden of oral diseases.

In his inaugural address, Professor Anis Ismail appreciated the efforts of ‘SOCH’ and the Disability Unit. He said that he will take necessary measures to help physically challenged students.

Highlighting the importance of the occasion, Dr Abdul Hamid Fazili, Coordinator, Disability Unit said that the World Oral Health Day (WOHD) is celebrated every year on 20th March to make people aware of benefits of a healthy mouth and observing oral hygiene.

He said that the Disability Unit is committed to the welfare of physically challenged students and it has helped students by solving issues pertaining to admissions, hostel accommodation, scholarships, meals and other amenities. He said that the Unit is also trying to seek help from government.

Dr. Suhail Ahmad Siddiqui, University Polytechnic and Dr Nasir Ahmad Salati, Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College were present during the inaugural function. They said that this kind of event should be organized on regular basis for benefit of physically challenged students.

Dr Danish Suhail of SOCH said that such camps will be organized on a regular basis. Dr Saleem Mohammad Khan of SOCH said that they worked for those who were not taken care of and this made them a SOCH, beyond Imagination.
