Saboo Siddiq Engineering students emerged first at Aero Design Competition held in Texas

Mumbai: In a rare show of excellence at an International level Indian Muslim engineering students belonging to Anjuman Islam M H Saboo Siddique College of Mumbai grabbed first position for the best SAE Aero Design in a technical competition held in a Texas city of America.

Another team of the same college won first position from Asia in the Advanced Class contest. The competition was contested by students from highly reputed colleges of many countries including from 7 different engineering colleges of India.

Anjuman Islam is the biggest Muslim educational institution in Maharashtra which has M H Saboo Siddiq college of Engineering. The students of this college worked hard with their teachers and prepared a perfect aero design which was presented in the technical competition held in Texas and earned a highest praise by receiving first position. Among the top class Indian colleges to participate in the competition were IIT Kanpur and Vellore Institute of Technology.

The competition was held at Fortworth, Texas, United States, from March 28-30, and the teams returned last week.

The SAE Aero Design competition is intended to provide undergraduate and graduate engineering students with a real-life engineering challenge. The competition was held to provide exposure to the kinds of situations that engineers face in their real-life work environment.

SAE Aero Design features three classes of competition-Regular, Advanced, and Micro. The competition was organized by Lokheed Martin and NASA.

In the micro class, the team was commendable at the Aero Design in which they secured the first position. While one team won the first prize globally at the Aero Design in Micro Class SAE Aero Design West Micro Class 2014, another team emerged as the top winner from Asia in the Advanced Class contest.

Both the teams belonged to Anjuman Islam M H Saboo Siddik college of Engineering at Byculla in Central Mumbai.

The team was comprised of Dr Sanjay Kumar (Faculty), Adith Ajayan (Captain), Abdul Kadir Poonawala, Imran Merchant, Hussain Shaikh, Muzammil Sarkhot, Darpan Agarwal, Afsan Gujarati and Sharang Biradar. These students are from the automobile engineering stream.

Seventeen teams from across the world including 7 teams from India represented by premier Institutes such as I.I.T Kanpur, NIT, Jamshedpur, VIT, Vellore, besides the Mumbai team participated in the Advanced Category.

In this event, the M H Saboo Siddiq College team missed the top slot narrowly but emerged as the first in Asia.

The team was comprised of Deleep Talwai (Faculty) Mustafa Hatiyari (Captain), Saqlain Siddique, Atharva Joshi, Harshad Bhanushali, Abdul Karim Sarang, Hanif Shaikh, Shehzaad Keralwalla, Faheem Chaudhary, Manish Shukla, Zameer Ansari, Asma Khan and Shaziya Shaikh. These are the students of mechanical engineering and electronics engineering stream.

After their return students were felicitated by the college for bringing admiration to it on International level. Director of Anjuman Islam said that it was a moment of great honor not only for the Muslim community in India but also for the whole country. He also said that it will give inspiration to other Indian engineering students to perform on International level.

Vice President of Anjuman Islam Abbas Hataokar, Chairman Board of Vocational Training Rafiq Naik and Principal of M H Saboo Siddiq also congratulated students for achieving this feat at International level and wished them bright and wonderful future.
