Mercury soars to 45.5 degrees in Odisha town

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under severe heat wave conditions, with the mercury soaring to 45.5 degree Celsius Friday in the state’s Titilagarh town, the highest of this summer so far, an official said.

People stayed indoors and roads wore deserted look in the town in Bolangir district, about 400 km from Bhubaneswara revenue department official told IANS.

High temperatures were also recorded at several other towns – Jharsuguda (44.1 degrees), Sambalpur (44.8 degrees), Sundargarh (44 degrees), Hirakud (44.3 degrees), Bhawanipatna (44.8 degrees) and Bolangir (44 degrees).

The state government Friday confirmed one more death due to sunstroke taking the total deaths on account of heat wave in the state to 22 this summer.
