Hyderabad: Cricketer VVS Laxman and Senior Police Officer A K Khan flagged off the Run for Education and Urdu organized by Maulana Azad National Urdu University on Sunday morning that at Biodiversity Park Gachibowli.
The Run is part of the Azad Day Celebrations that started on November 7 with the release of University Tarana that was penned by leading Poety-lyricist Gulzar, composed by noted Music composer and filmmaker Vishal and sung by celebrity singers Sukhwinder Singh and Rekha Bhardwaj.
The university has organized Azad Day Celebrations to commemorate the memory of Maulana Azad, frontline freedom fighter, scholar, writer and journalist. Government of India has declared the birthday of Maulana Azad as Education Day as he was the first education minister of free India for 11 years.
Hundreds of students of MANUU, University of Hyderabad, Osmania University and others participated in the Run that wound up at the Open Air Auditorium of MANUU. The run was jointly organized by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Chair and Department of Management and Commerce.
Syed Vazeer (Osmania University) was the winner. G. Naresh and T. Mallesham both from University of Hyderabad were First and Second Runners up. The winners of five consolation prize included participants from MANUU and other Universities. The other participants were given certificates.
Prof Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of MANUU, said that the participants of high number of youngsters showed the enthusiasm of the new generation in spreading awareness about the need to promote the idea of education for all and Urdu.
The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism will be organizing an extension lecture by eminent journalist Sayeed Naqwi on Mission of Maulana Azad—a Great Visionary—on Monday at DD Auditorium at the MANUU Campus on Monday at 11-00am.
The week-long events to mark the contribution of Maulana Azad would be concluded on Tuesday at a function that would be addressed by Naseem Ahmed, Chairman of National Commission for Minorities.
