Number of ‘disappointed’ Maharashtra AAP workers resign alleging disparity within the party

Mumbai: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which has little presence in Maharashtra has continued losing faith among its activists and workers due to party’s internal instability. In a press conference held couple of days ago, several active workers of the party in Mumbai have resigned from all party posts and responsibilities sighting internal differences with the party leaders.

Many well-known faces – Medha Patkar, Mayank Gandhi, Anjali Damania and Preeti Sharma-Menon had joined the AAP from state before parliamentary elections. The AAP failed to clinch single seat from Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections despite it fielding candidates from most of the 48 seats in the state.

Party workers announced in a press conference that they were disappointed with the party’s leadership and feel that the party is losing touch with the ground people by means of whom the party had came into existence. The party workers were mainly found to be disheartened with party president Arvind Kejriwal and National Executive member Mayank Gandhi.

Maulana Lukman Nadvi announced group’s resignation from party who said, “We are saddened by the internal politics played by Mayank Gandhi who never listen to party workers and uses police pressure when any member raises voice against Mayank Gandhi’s inappropriate policies”.

He alleged that party has low representation from marginalized section of the society due to its leadership not giving proper opportunities to Dalits and Muslims. He further blamed party leaders of deviating from original principles with which people were supporting it.

He blamed Kejriwal for lack of attention towards Maharashtra party workers and focusing mainly in New Delhi although due to his declaration party had fought parliamentary election from 434 seats across India including many seats from Maharashtra.

During the press Mr. Anil Yadav said, “Dalit, Muslims and other minority communities are being neglected by Mayank Gandhi and hence the party is appearing to have moved away from the code with which it started in New Delhi”.

Afroz Malik, another outgoing party member said, “We are very much unhappy with Mayank Gandhi who plays internal politics within party and suppresses party workers. We are feeling dishonored due to the treatment given to us by Mayank Gandhi and hence have decided to leave the party”.

They added at the end that they had complained to Kejriwal about the unruly behavior of Mayank Gandhi towards party workers but he did not pay much attention to their concerns and instead of intervention, they received agitating reply from Kejriwal that he has not chosen to join people’s struggle to solve party workers’ internal problems.
