Tehran : Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Friday said that the combination of the announced solutions in the negotiations that concluded in Lausanne, Switzerland, can serve as the final base for Tehran’s nuclear agreement.
“The devised solutions in the final Lausanne communique will serve as a platform based on which those solutions will be finalised in May,” Zarif after he landed at Tehran airport.
Top negotiators from Iran and the P5+1 group — the US, Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany — on Thursday concluded the eight-day Iranian nuclear talks, issuing a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) communique in Lausanne and reached common solutions to outstanding issues for a comprehensive deal by June 30.
The communique was read out for the media by Zarif and the European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.
Mogherini said that all sides agreed to Iran’s enrichment capacity, enrichment level and the stockpile will be limited for a specific duration and there will be no other enrichment facility than the country’s Natanz nuclear plant.
“Iran’s research and development on centrifuges will be carried out based on a cope and schedule that has been mutually agreed,” she said.
As to Iran’s controversial Fordow nuclear plant, it will be converted from an enrichment site into a nuclear, physics and technology centre, Mogherini added.
Iranian senior nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi hailed what he called “the recognition of Iran’s nuclear programme” by the world, and said “based on this statement, Iran’s nuclear programme is internationally valid and recognised and this is the biggest achievement for us”.
He told IRIB Channel 2 TV from Lausanne that the communique was the result of some 16 months of intensive talks. “This time we achieved a point from which materialising the basic demands of Iran throughout the negotiations is possible and this is a very important achievement for our country.”
