Hyderabad: The custodial death of poor labourer Sheikh Hyder in Nizamabad town continues to draw ire from different political parties, the recent to jump in is the Indian Union Muslim League. IUML Member of Parliament from Ponnani Kerala, ET Mohammed Basheer has shot a letter to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao demanding stringent action against the cops involved in the custodial death.
On March 21st Sheikh Hyder who was detained on the charges of stealing a Bicycle died in one town police station of Nizamabad town, police claimed that he died due to injuries inflicted while he was trying to escape. But his family and local Muslims believe he was killed by the police using third degree torture.

Incident attracted lot of attention as Nizamabad parliament is the constituency of K. Kavitha, daughter of Chief Minister. Nizamabad is an emerging stronghold of an assertive MIM, which is ruling the town corporation in alliance with TRS, and is also becoming a breeding ground for different Muslim political factions, where IUML is also trying its luck with fresh new faces.
Along with his letter, IUML parliamentarian has forwarded to the chief minister the letter complaint he received from his party state unit (TCN has copies of both letters). In its complaint IUML alleged that Sheikh Hyder was brutally beaten up and tortured till he fell unconscious, later police officers in an attempt to hush up the case neglected in providing him any medical aid which led to his death.
IUML in its representation demanded a judicial enquiry into the custodial death and an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs for the family of Sheikh Hyder. Demanding a comprehensive inquiry into the incident IUML parliamentarian also asked chief minister to do the need full to stop the incidents of custodial deaths targeting Muslim youths.
IUML state secretary Abdul Ghani told TwoCircles.net that his party’s central leaders have assured state unit to raise the issue in the parliament.
