Lucknow : Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday visited many areas in Saharanpur and took stock of the problems being faced by farmers whose crops were ravaged by the recent unseasonal rain and hailstorms.
Rajnath, who has also served as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, went to Govindpur and spoke to the aggrieved farmers.
Urging them not to resort to extreme steps like suicide in the wake of crop damage, he assured them of all possible help from the central government.
He also said that the assessment of crop damage was being done after visits by central ministers to different parts of the rain affected areas.
He assured that very soon compensation would be fixed and disbursement fast-tracked.
He also requested the Uttar Pradesh government to complete its assessment-related work.
He added that the central and the state governments would jointly come to the farmers’ rescue in the time of crisis.
