New Delhi : The Delhi government on Thursday constituted “28 patient welfare committees” aimed at providing proper medical facilities and treatment to the patients in its hospitals.
“To ensure that every patient is treated properly and that all medical facilities are provided to them, we have formed 28 patient welfare committees in several hospitals of the city,” Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said at a press conference.
There are 39 hospitals under the Delhi government. He said that committees would also address several other problems of the patients that they face in the city hospitals.
“Each patient welfare committee will be headed by Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the respective constituency,” he said.
Jain also announced the formation of 10 district committees to look after the condition of dispensaries and other health programmes in the national capital.
“These district committees will ensure that the dispensaries across the city have all the essential medicines and cater to the medical needs of the public,” Jain said.
“These district committees will also look after the health programmes launched for public welfare in the city,” he said.
He added that each district committee would be chaired by an MLA.
Primary healthcare services to the patients are provided through a widespread network of 101 dispensaries. Most of these are concentrated in the JJ clusters (slums) in Delhi and rural areas. There are also 16 homoeopathic outpatient departments in Delhi government allopathic hospitals.
