Jamia Celebrates Independence Day

New Delhi: Jamia celebrated Independence Day today with traditional gaiety and fervour. The students, teachers and staff of Jamia Millia Islamia had assembled in the school premises in large numbers to witness the hoisting of the national flag. The tiny-tots from the Mushir Fatima Nursery School and students from the Jamia Schools made an inspiring cultural performance.

Professor Shareef Ahmad, Dean , Faculty of Natural sciences , standing-in for the Vice-Chancellor, JMI addressed the audience and gave an account of the sacrifices made by people of India to achieve independence. He discussed the contributions of the freedom fighters that helped us realize the fruits of Independence.

Later interacting with the media-persons, Professor Talat Ahmad, Vice –Chancellor, JMI spoke about the importance of education in fashioning the destiny of the nation. He averred that education was critical for the all-round growth of the nation. He commended the efforts made by the Government of India for promoting access and equity in respect of education and talked of the initiatives made by Jamia Millia Islamia to realize many of those objectives to strengthen the nation.

Earlier, the guard of honour was given by the Jamia wing of the National Cadet Corps. The Vice Chancellor was welcomed by the Principal, Staff and students.
