New Delhi : Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge’s attempt to raise an issue on Monday about official records not showing his remarks related to union minister V.K. Singh went in vain, as he did not give prior notice for it.
As Kharge wanted to highlight that his remarks about Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh were not mentioned in December 2 proceedings, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan told him that he should first give a notice on the matter.
Mahajan said she would look into the issue but she had not received any notice from Kharge.
Kharge, however, insisted on raising the issue.
Mahajan then said she had not been informed or consulted and bringing up an issue in such a manner was inappropriate.
“You first give notice. If it is appropriate, I will give you an opportunity to raise it. You are talking of record (of the proceedings). I must know it,” she said.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said all members have respect for the procedure adopted in the house.
“If this is the way issue is to be raised, this is not acceptable,” he said.
As Kharge complained of “injustice”, the Speaker said: “It is not injustice.”
The Congress has been demanding resignation of V.K. Singh over his controversial remarks made after two Dalit children in Haryana were burnt to death.
Singh, a former army chief, had said it was a local incident and as it happens that even if a stone is thrown at a dog, the central government is held responsible. His remark has been widely criticised
