Maharashtra government corrects mistake, to celebrate Maulana Azad’s birth anniversary as usual

Education Minister inform assembly that state shall also celebrate birth anniversary of former President Dr. Abdul Kalam Azad from next year

Mumbai: Accepting it as a fault of administration department, Maharashtra Education Minister announced that he has issued directions to include birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in its list of anniversaries of National personalities and days of significance that state wants all government offices to celebrate next year.

On Thursday, Vinod Tawde, Maharashtra Education Minister informed state assembly that he has called for reasons from the general administration department for missing Maulana Azad’s birth anniversary that is celebrated throughout the nation on November 11 as ‘Education day’ and that state will correct its mistake through a subsequent GR.

Through December 4 report From 2016, Maulana Azad’s birth anniversary not of concern to Maha govt, TwoCircles.net had reported that the state notified all government institutions to celebrate birth or death anniversaries in 2016 of 25 personalities and the list does not include name of India’s first education minister Maulana Azad. In fact the list had no Muslim face.

This issue was raised by Muslim MLAs: Abu Asim Azmi (SP) and Muhammad Asif (INC) in the ongoing assembly session on Thursday and asked for clarification from government for non-inclusion of name of Maulana Azad in the list.

Tawde then informed assembly that he shall soon correct the mistake by issuing immediate directions. He also notified that in addition to this, former President Dr. Abdul Kalam Azad’s birth anniversary on October 15 will also be celebrated at all government offices, schools and colleges. He said October 15 will be included in the list as ‘Wachan Prerana Diwas’
