Kozhikode: The valedictory ceremony of the Muslim Educational Society (MES) has called for developing Kerala model of secularism to keep the communal harmony of the country intact. Inaugurating the function, Bihar Legislative Assembly opposition leader Abdul Bari Siddique said the secularist values should be disseminated up to the grass root level of the society.
“Kerala has emerged as an emulative arena of secularism, which should be followed by the north Indian states. Amid the efforts taken up for the material development gaps prevail in the minds of people on the basis of their religion calling for the stern intervention,” Siddique said.
The rally, taken out ahead to the valediction of the golden jubilee celebrations of Muslim Educational Society (MES) in the city on Sunday.
The role of media in demonising the Muslim community also came under heavy criticism. “Media is responsible for creating divisions and keeping the plight of Muslims stagnant,” said former Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh Mohammed Adeeb while addressing the gathering.

“Clinics, set up by MES, have started functioning in Bihar and West Bengal and a comprehensive project has been drafted to uplift the marginalised communities in other states,” Fazal said.
