Rahman has come to this city only recently, having left his hometown, Muzaffarnagar, after the riots that took place in 2013. On the first day that he reached Bombay, he stood outside Jalsa, Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow, along with several other starstruck fans, waiting for the legend to make his customary Sunday appearance.
Soon after, Rahman remembers Juhu beach and getting extremely confused. It looked so beautiful in the movies, but was so chaotic in real life. Now, every time he needs to take his mind off his struggles, he goes back to the sea, but he avoids Juhu. Versova beach is so much quieter, he tells me. It’s more accessible too, since it’s the area where he stays, trying to get by, working as a dhobi. “Anurag Kashyap’s office is closeby,” he tells me, “I have been trying to meet him.”
